Losing weight fast requires a three-pronged approach
Mindset. First of all. If the mind isn't right, weight loss won't happen. Most people fail in their weight loss attempts because they lack proper motivation. When the temptations arise...and they will...to eat forbidden sweets or to miss an exercise session, most people do not have enough inner drive or motivation to stick with the routine. Those who are successful are simply successful in their minds first. If you are interested in fast weight loss, mental attitude is everything. You can get an exercise partner to help you with motivation, but you still need to find self motivation.

Diet. There are two facets to dieting that will give the fastest results when used together.

Preventive dieting is simply dieting based on avoidance. You must learn to avoid certain foods and drinks. Sweets like candy and cinnamon rolls are definitely on the "avoid" list. Sweet drinks like colas are on the list. White flour products are also definitely on the list of foods to avoid. The "avoid foods" keep you from adding to the fat you already have and are trying to lose. This is perhaps the most important part of dieting.

Thermogenic foods are foods you need to add to your diet. These are foods that elevate your metabolism during the digestion process. All foods are a bit thermogenic, in that they burn calories during digestion, but there are foods that certainly use more calories for digestion than others. Foods like lean protein and high fiber broccoli and green beans are simple examples of high thermogenic foods.

Exercise
There are basically two types of exercise that consume energy or burn calories. These are aerobic exercises like running or ground aerobics, and resistance exercises like weight training. The best exercise for fat burning is resistance or weight training. Resistance training brings a two-fold attack against fat. First of all it builds muscle. Muscle burns fat even while resting. Secondly, weight training exercise, when done properly consumes fat as fuel both during the exercise and long after the exercise is done. It will leave your metabolism in hyper mode for much of the day.

Yes, thankfully you can certainly lose fat much faster than you gained it. Simply make up your mind and get started with the most effective diet and exercise program.
